Honoring Service

Sustaining a powerful and long-standing commitment to veterans and their families
Friday, November 10, 2017

We celebrated Veterans Day with a moving ceremony on campus today, Nov. 10. Col. Ralph L. “Bo” Clayton III, a 1988 Appalachian graduate, was our speaker. His military career is most impressive and we are extremely proud of his Appalachian roots and for the Military Science and Leadership students on our campus he inspires.

This is also the first anniversary of the opening of our Student Veteran Resource Center. We are privileged to have 302 veterans and active-duty military personnel on our campus today. I am honored these students who have served our country so unselfishly have chosen Appalachian. I am thankful, too, for the faculty and staff that strive every day to instill a culture of service in all of our students.

The High Country Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America is holding a ceremony at the Boone Mall, Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. All are invited.
