Officers for Tomorrow

New program trains student police cadets
Friday, August 3, 2018

Appalachian recently launched a police development program that prepares students to become certified police officers in North Carolina. Ours is the only university other than Indiana University, which piloted the program, to offer such an opportunity.

The program:

  • Offers our students yet another job market advantage for post-college success.
  • Provides the Appalachian Police Department additional personnel for security coverage of campus, particularly during large campus events.
  • Expands and improves the relationships between App State Police and the greater community.

And, as we strive to continue to engage more rural and first-generation students in the university experience, this program offers a unique and attractive opportunity.

Our law enforcement leadership is clear: Policing is a profession that requires leaders, thinkers and innovative ideas to facilitate positive reform.

Appalachian is an institution that supports the development of critical thinking, effective communication and responsible citizenship in its students.

What a brilliant match.
