Important Provost Search Update
Dear Members of the Appalachian Community:
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Darrell P. Kruger has accepted my offer to serve as provost and executive vice chancellor at Appalachian State University. Dr. Kruger comes to Appalachian from the University of New Orleans, where he is dean of the College of Education and Human Development.
Dr. Kruger brings a wealth of experience and expertise based in an approach of service and collegiality to support the work of our dedicated faculty, students and staff in meeting our academic mission. During the search process, it was clear that he was prepared to be both colleague and advocate as our university joins together to navigate the opportunities ahead of us. I commend the search committee for their diligence and service throughout the entire search process, and was pleased to receive the search committee's feedback indicating their support of Dr. Kruger.
In addition to the University of New Orleans, he has had administrative and faculty duties at Illinois State University and been on the faculty at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Louisiana State University. Dr. Kruger holds a doctorate in geography from Louisiana State University.
Dr. Kruger will begin his tenure on July 1. An event for faculty, staff and students to meet and welcome him to campus will be scheduled for early in the fall semester.
I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to Dr. Stan Aeschelman, who has served as interim provost since fall 2014.
Sincerely,
Sheri N. Everts
Chancellor
