Resources for support during challenging times
Dear Members of the Appalachian Community:
It is with great sadness that I reach out to you about the death of student Jeremy A. Sprinkle. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with Jeremy’s family, loved ones and friends. At this difficult time, it is imperative that we join together in care and concern as we mourn his loss. Our community can and must share the message that no one needs to be alone when navigating difficult times. If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out.
This evening, Counseling Center staff will meet with students in Jeremy’s residence hall, as well as with students who were in classes with him. Additionally, we are reaching out to faculty and staff members to assist them as they manage the difficult emotions experienced with the unexpected death of a student.
Open communication, whether it comes from a parent, other family member, loved one or friend, is often the most valuable resource any of our students can have. We strive each day to ensure that our students, faculty and staff have the knowledge, tools and resources to support and assist one another during challenging times.
- Counseling and support are available to our students, as well as our faculty and staff, and I encourage you to take advantage of these resources.
- It is important for everyone to be aware that the Counseling Center offers resources specifically for students to help support other students. I encourage you to visit this website and become familiar with the information provided.
- The Counseling Center also offers information for parents and families in addition to the many other resources available on their website.
- Always feel free to contact the Dean of Students Office at 828-262-8284 if you need additional resources or are not sure who to call for help.
As our community faces this tragic loss together, I am confident we will each do everything we can to care for one another.
Sincerely,
Sheri N. Everts
