Chancellor Sheri Everts shares a welcome message to students, faculty and staff on the first day of classes for the 2023-24 academic year.

Welcome to the Fall 2023 semester at App State!

Today is a GREAT DAY to be a Mountaineer! This semester, 124 years after our university’s founding, we welcome students back to the Boone campus, and — at the same time — we welcome the inaugural class to the Hickory campus.

We are dedicated to your success at App State — whether you are a student, a member of our staff or a faculty member.

App State is known for its small class sizes, high-quality student and faculty interaction, excellent undergraduate research opportunities, and
service to our local and regional communities — AND for consistently being ranked among the best value colleges in America.

We have students who work with faculty to conduct significant research that will make a difference in our world. We have faculty who are performing climate research at some of the highest elevations around the world. Our wonderful staff give back to our community through an App State program that started nearly forty-five years ago to provide clothing and school supplies to local children in need.

Every year, I strive to keep you informed about key programs and initiatives, student, faculty and staff accolades, and other factors that impact the daily learning, teaching, research and work at your university. You can expect to receive regular email messages from me throughout the year that provide important campus updates and university achievements.

The lessons learned from the challenges of the global pandemic have made App State better prepared moving forward. With dedicated resources for emergency response, health services and counseling, be assured your health and safety is at the forefront of our decisions at App State.

Students, you are at the premier, public, undergraduate institution in the Southeast with extraordinary faculty and staff who will prepare you to make significant contributions to your communities, equipping you with the knowledge and skills  to be successful in your careers.

The relationships you develop within this community of scholars and peers will create a foundation for your future and a personal and professional network you can rely on for a lifetime.

We are ALL proud to welcome you to App State!

I hope you are as excited as I am for the start of the academic year!
