Appalachian Connections
January 2019

Message from Chancellor Sheri Everts

We are glad to see our students back on campus. A special welcome to those members of your family who are joining us for the first time.

2019 will be an exciting time at Appalachian. In the works are plans for a Conservatory for Biodiversity Education and Research, which will include laboratories, a conservatory, meeting space and gardens; seven new residence halls; a new end zone facility at Kidd Brewer Stadium; and an expanded child development center. The latter is increasingly important, as studies show our population of students with dependent children is growing, and they, along with our faculty and staff, value and deserve quality child care.

You can read about these and other projects at Appalachian’s Future. You may check it regularly for updates on these and other campus projects.

Those families who have been with us for a while know I communicate through Connections each month. There are many other ways for you to connect with Appalachian while your students are with us.

Our Today site will open a window to everything current: student profiles, awards, news and events.

You’ll find a compilation of the top stories for 2018 here — an excellent overview of the year’s highlights.

For a real-time look at the life your student is enjoying, you may also choose to follow Appalachian on social media.

Appalachian on Instagram lets our students tell their own Appalachian story. Each week, you can read posts by a different undergraduate or graduate student on how they live and learn like a Mountaineer. We put together a year’s end review that showcases the many opportunities our students have during their Appalachian Experience.

I also have my own Facebook and Twitter accounts.

I invite you to connect with the Appalachian Community in many ways. We’d especially love to see you on campus!

All the best for 2019.
