Standing with UNCC
Our hearts are broken and our thoughts are with our friends, loved ones and colleagues at UNC Charlotte. We grieve for the victims of this tragedy and their families, as well as the entire Niner Nation. Today, and in the challenging days ahead, Mountaineers are in solidarity with UNC Charlotte and those affected by this devastating violence.
Sadly, campus shootings are too frequent, and when they take place, especially so close to home, they expose the vulnerability we all feel, and can cause anxiety that adds to end-of-semester pressures. Members of our university leadership have reached out to our colleagues in Charlotte to offer support and assistance and there is support for Mountaineers at home if needed.
I would like to remind you of some key resources that are available to you. I encourage you to utilize them if you need to talk, need help, and/or would like further information:
- Student Counseling Services offers services 24 hours a day
- Counseling for Faculty and Staff offers free and confidential counseling, consultation, seminars and guidance for making referrals to colleagues or employees
- Appalachian’s Emergency Management team provides information, resources and workshops to help you respond more quickly and effectively should the need arise.
On this sad day for our university system and state, please know that there are many people at Appalachian who are here for you.
Sheri Everts, Chancellor
