First in the nation for National Board certifications
Friday, February 16, 2018

This year, Appalachian celebrates its 50th year as a university. From our beginnings in 1899 as Watauga Academy, we have excelled at preparing our students to teach — and to be the best at what they do.

Appalachian continues to lead the nation in the number of alumni who have earned certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), with 616 additional teachers gaining the endorsement in 2017. That is a statistic for which we can be extremely proud.

Our alumni are having immeasurable impact in classrooms across this nation. We respect and encourage those students who are the teachers of tomorrow, and applaud the faculty and staff who are preparing them for the task.
