Provost Search Update from Chancellor Everts

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:

Last week I announced the committee members for the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor search. I thank these representatives from across our campus community for their dedication and willingness to serve.

I charged the committee on Wednesday, October 15, and I know each and every member understands the paramount importance this search holds for our university and its academic mission. While the committee is just beginning its work, I wanted to share a few details that will shape the process moving forward.

First, I feel it is critical that our community have the opportunity to meet and learn more about each finalist candidate. Therefore, each finalist will be scheduled for a campus visit next semester. The details of that visit will be developed and shared as the committee continues its work. Next, the committee will be engaging the services of a search firm to assist in identifying top candidates for the position. While I understand we may not all agree on the importance of including a search firm in this process, I know we all agree we want the best candidate pool possible. I firmly believe this is just one tool, of many, to assist us in broadening and deepening our pool.

In the days and months ahead, I assure you that we will keep you informed about the process and how you can participate. To ensure that staying informed is made a bit easier, we are developing a website to house important information and to assist in gathering your crucial input. Please look for an update providing you with the link for this website.

I wish you all a safe and happy fall break and I feel confident, even during this time, you are keeping engaged through email. For this reason, I wanted to share this update with you in as timely a manner as possible. I thank each and every one of you for what you do for Appalachian.

Sincerely,

/s/ Sheri N. Everts
