Monday, September 8, 2014

Dear Members of the Appalachian Community:

Since our student Anna Smith was reported missing on September 3rd, there has been an outpouring of care and concern from the Appalachian community. All of our hearts go out to Anna’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Anna’s safe return is first and foremost on our minds at Appalachian. As Chancellor, the safety and well-being of our students is my top priority.

University Police, other law enforcement agencies and First Responders have participated in the search and I thank them for their critical support. Anna’s family and friends have joined with student volunteers to share information about the search with as many people as possible. Getting information out remains a key priority, and I ask that you continue to assist in this crucial endeavor.

University Police will continue following every lead reported and working with their partners in law enforcement. I ask everyone to remain alert and report any information that could assist in the search for Anna.

We will continue to share updates as new information is available and I ask that you remain informed and engaged by viewing the most current information on this web page: http://appstate.edu/missing-student.php.

For our students, faculty and staff, and their families, please remember that access to critical resources can be found at http://appcares.appstate.edu. Please do not hesitate to engage the services of these resources if they can assist you with your well-being or that of someone you know.
