Good Morning,
Today I have the privilege and honor to begin my service as chancellor of Appalachian State University. Over the past months, I have had opportunities to visit campus and to begin learning more about what makes this university great. Of course, at the top of the list are the people. The students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends are all critical in the success of our university.
Like other institutions of higher learning, there are challenges which lie ahead of us, but together we can rise to meet these challenges, grow even stronger, and chart a destiny that is uniquely Appalachian. In the days ahead, I will be reaching out to you to learn about your ideas and dreams for our university, and I thank you in advance for being the passionate and dedicated community I am already beginning to know.
Students, and their success, are core to our mission - and I have already witnessed the amazing transformation The Appalachian Experience is making in our students. When students join our community, it is imperative we do everything we can to support them as they prepare to lead purposeful lives as engaged, global citizens who understand their responsibilities in creating a sustainable future for all.
From our dedicated alumni who make positive differences in our world, to the community engagement of our students, to the critical support our staff provides, to our friends and donors, to the work of our outstanding faculty who contribute to the intellectual depth and breadth of their disciplines, we understand the important contributions that Appalachian makes every day in our community, state and beyond. As we build on the strong foundation so many of you have worked hard to establish, I know this community is looking toward a bright future, and I thank you for joining me on this journey.
